Rings of power Woke by LOTR fans

According to The Daily Mail, fans of The Lord of the Rings are dissatisfied with the teaser for Amazon’s billion-dollar spin-off Rings of Power, which they criticized for deviating from JRR Tolkien’s original works and attempting to be ‘woke.’

Following the release of the trailer for the highly anticipated Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power on Super Bowl Sunday, fans took to social media to express their displeasure with the show’s inclusion of a more “diverse” cast, which they claim is inconsistent with the original material.

The criticism stems from the fact that the Amazon series borrows from the appendices that accompanied Tolkien’s original works to aid in the creation of the Middle Earth world, and many of his influences can be traced back to Norse, Celtic, and Anglo-Saxon folklore, all of which are white ethnic groups.

Upset fans took to Twitter and Instagram to voice out their objection, with one remarking, “Go woke, go broke. How about you respect the source material.”

Another fan commented, “So sad you just used Tolkien’s ideas to write a completely different book, and one that is only there to pay homage to confused woke ideas instead of the great depth of thought founded in his books.”

Then again, many fans likewise dismissed the analysis, with one fan bringing up, “Imagine being upset about a black elf in a series where the trees talk and wizards ride on eagles.”

Another replied, “Silly comments. Whether it is goodwill depends entirely on the writing and plot, not the gender or race of the actors or the fact the visuals might deviate from your preferences.”

Only a few non-white artists appeared in Peter Jackson’s original trilogy of Lord of the Rings films.
